AFSR Classes, Workshops, Memberships

Group adult classes (18+) are taught in French by a native-fluent instructor in an inclusive, interactive setting. The classes emphasize oral and written comprehension and production. Themed classes and workshops hone in on specific linguistic and cultural skills. Textbooks and course materials are either provided by the instructor or can be obtained online or at bookstores (info to be provided for each course).

  • Please consider an end-of-year donation to the Alliance Française de Santa Rosa, Sonoma Wine Country. Your donation will directly help us to provide classes and programs at all levels of French language around conversation, culture, art, food and all things French, and to bring our growing community together for cultural celebrations such as our Winter Market, Bastille Day festival, Pétanque picnic and Beaujolais Nouveau tasting.   • Celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau at Notre Vue Estate 2025!

    Join us on Friday, November 21st, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM to celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau at the beautiful Notre Vue Estate, 11010 Estate Lane Windsor, CA 95492. Tickets (per person) include two glasses of wine (one French Beaujolais Nouveau and one "surprise Nouveau" from Notre Vue) and some food. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, November 3rd. Tickets (pre sale):
    • $20 for current ASFR members
    • $25 for non-members
    • $10 for guests under 21 (food + NA drink)
    +$10 at the door ($30 for members, $35 for non members, $20 for guests under 21).

  • Fall Session II - November 5 through December 17, 2025*

    • Tuition: $225 (6 weeks)

    This class is for the complete Beginner. Traveling to France soon, need French for work or for personal pursuits? Beginning French teaches students to communicate immediately in Everyday Situations by learning the building blocks of the language. Students practice dialogues to introduce themselves, ask questions, make purchases, and enjoy the culture and challenges of everyday life. Use of current practical expressions, correct pronunciation and grammar, and cultural know-how are stressed. Minimum enrollment is needed for classes to run.   • Private Lessons (Regular and AP) with Valerie

    Price range: $60.00 through $85.00
    Private lessons are held for 1 hour, one-on-one and ongoing. Additional time may be added, if desired. Sessions are requested to be paid in advance at the beginning of the month. Lesson rates: Adults $75/hour at the Alliance. ($85/hour if the teacher travels to the student more than 10 miles from the instructor's home) to defray transportation costs for the teacher). Youth $60/hour or $70/hour with teacher travel. EXCEPTION: If the instructor and the student live closer to each other than they do to AFSR, no additional fee is charged for off-site tutoring.   • Semi-Private Lessons (Regular and AP) with Valerie

    Price range: $30.00 through $45.00
    • Semi-private lessons are offered to two students for regular or AP (Advanced Placement for HS) instruction, tailor-maid to suit student needs.
    • Sessions are one month (2-3 hours minimum) paid in advance.
    • Pricing:  Adults: $80/hr ($40.00/hr each)  $45/hr if the teacher travels to the student (more than 10 miles from the teacher’s home
    • Youth: $60/hr  ($30/hr each  ($35/hr for travel)

    In-person class! This class is intended for those students who already have a good grasp of the basics and are seeking to improve their listening comprehension and conversational fluency. The short films will either be subtitled or transcribed in French and cover a range of mostly contemporary subjects. In addition to watching at home, class preparation will include comprehension and interpretive questions. Our classes depend upon minimum enrollment to run. (B1+ Level)

    In person class!  This class is for advanced beginners level-A2, and will challenge students' abilities by strengthening their skills in French through proper pronunciation, and vocabulary and grammar, focusing on a communicative approach to the language. Students will strengthen their knowledge of past and future tenses, pronouns, and other finer points of the French language. Dialogues and listening activities are stressed. Students read short stories to expand their vocabulary, grammar and comprehension. This class will help students learn to enjoy and interact in the French culture, whether it be for travel, work, or personal pursuits. Our classes depend upon minimum enrollment.   • Littérature Avancée B2/C1 with Joelle | 25F2 | Online | Tuesday 10 – 11:30am

    Online class! Students studying Advanced Literature read excerpts and works of famous authors, learn their biographies, mark their place in history, and discuss major themes. Students are currently studying 20th century literature. Our classes depend upon minimum enrollment. (B2/C1 Level)
