Spotlight on New Classes
Eight Centuries of French Art (in English!)
A journey through the history of French art, from the gargoyles of Gothic architecture through the flowering of humanism in the Renaissance; from the grand siècle under Louis XIV to the enchantments of French rococo; the dizzying proliferation of styles (realism, romanticism, symbolism, impressionism, and others) that marked the tumultuous 19th century and the rise of the bourgeoisie as the principal consumers of art, and finally culminating in the experimental avant-garde of the 20th century and the development of abstraction. Through an encounter with the rich and diverse history of French art, students will improve their ability to describe and discuss artworks and communicate their visual impressions.
Deeply knowledgeable in art history, our instructor Charles will teach Eight Centuries of French Art in person during the Fall I Session, on Mondays from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. While the Alliance has traditionally offered classes in French to support language learning, this course reflects a broader commitment to sharing the richness of French culture with a wider audience. Taught in English, it invites both Francophiles and lifelong learners to explore eight centuries of French artistic achievement, regardless of their level of French.
French Conversation & Pronunciation for Mid-Beginners
Take your French to the next level this fall with AFSR’s new French Conversation & Pronunciation class! Build confidence speaking French in a fun, friendly, and supportive environment while practicing real-life conversations you can use every day. Sharpen your pronunciation, expand your vocabulary, and develop the fluency to communicate more naturally and with greater ease. Designed for adult learners with a basic knowledge of French, this engaging class is the perfect opportunity to speak more, connect with others, and bring your French to life! Our new instructor Barbara will be teaching this online class on Zoom on Mondays from 6:00 to 7:00 PM during the Fall I session.
French for SRFACS Parents
Do you have a child at SRFACS and want to better support them on their French-learning journey? This fall, we are excited to bring back our Beginner French class designed especially for SRFACS parents! Whether you’re starting from scratch or brushing up on the basics, this class will help you build practical French skills so you can better understand what your child is learning, follow along with homework, and feel more confident using French at home.We currently list one class on the schedule specifically as “French for SRFACS Parents” However, you’re welcome to enroll in any New A1-level class, as all A1 classes follow the same curriculum and cover the same material. The “French for SRFACS Parents” class is simply designated to help foster connections and camaraderie among SRFACS parents who may enjoy learning together.
To make participation as convenient as possible, we’re offering an evening class on Zoom and a late morning class in-person. If you’re interested in participating, please take a moment to complete our interest survey and let us know which class you would prefer and your background in French. Your response will help us plan the schedule that works best for everyone.
DELF Test Prep
Interested in living, working, or studying in a French-speaking country?
If you’re considering spending an extended period abroad in the future, whether to study, work, or live in a French-speaking country, earning a DELF diploma can be an important step.
Join us for a free online informational meeting on Monday, August 17th, at 6:00 PM to learn more about the DELF (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française) and how to prepare for the exam.
Our instructor, Gigi Kuhn, is certified by France Éducation International to prepare students for all levels of the DELF exam. She will explain the exam process, discuss the different proficiency levels, and answer your questions.
This fall, Gigi will offer a DELF Test Preparation class on Thursdays from 8:30 to 10:00 AM, designed for students planning to take the DELF exam in December. Private coaching is also available for those who prefer individualized instruction.
The DELF is recognized by the French government and may be required for certain residency and citizenship applications:
A2 – Required for a Multi-Year Residence Permit
B1 – Required for a 10-Year Resident Card
B2 – Required for French Citizenship
The DELF and DALF exams are offered several times each year through Alliance Française de San Francisco.

Fall 2026 Class Tuition Update
To continue providing high-quality French language instruction and enriching cultural programs, Alliance Française de Santa Rosa Sonoma Wine Country will be implementing updated class tuition rates beginning with our Fall 2026 session. As a nonprofit organization, tuition directly supports our mission by helping us fairly compensate our talented teachers and sustain the programs and operations that serve our community. While this is our first tuition adjustment in some time, we remain committed to offering excellent value and keeping our classes as accessible as possible.
To provide additional savings, we are replacing our previous 7-week pricing option with an Early Bird Registration period. Students who register between August 10 and August 17 will receive discounted tuition before regular pricing takes effect.
