AFSR Classes, Workshops, Memberships

Group adult classes (18+) are taught in French by a native-fluent instructor in an inclusive, interactive setting. The classes emphasize oral and written comprehension and production. Themed classes and workshops hone in on specific linguistic and cultural skills. Textbooks and course materials are either provided by the instructor or can be obtained online or at bookstores (info to be provided for each course).

  • Please join the board of the Alliance for the in-person Assemblée Générale dinner and annual meeting, at Maison Porcella in Windsor, on Monday, October 21, 2024, starting at 6:00 pm. We will start with an apéritif, exclusive to our current members (get/renew your annual membership), with charcuterie and sparkling wine on us, then proceed to vote at 7 pm to renew our Board of Directors (only current members can vote). After 7 pm, members and non-members alike are invited to join us for dinner. Please purchase dinner tickets online for each person in your family (adults or children) who will be attending, and make sure to make your choice of dessert when purchasing. Each ticket includes:
    • Adult: A main course of a croque-monsieur and salad, a choice of dessert, and 1 glass of wine.
    • Child (under 12): One-half croque-monsieur and french fries, choice of dessert, and 1 glass of sirop à l'eau (grenadine or other flavors)
    Dessert choices are: tarte aux fruits de saison or tarte au chocolat. Beginning French teaches students to communicate immediately in Everyday Situations by learning the building blocks of the language.  Students practice dialogues to introduce themselves, ask questions, make purchases, and enjoy the culture and challenges of everyday life. Use of current practical expressions, correct pronunciation and grammar, and cultural know-how are stressed.     *AFSR Membership: $50 Individual/$75 Family In-person class! “Beginning French for SRFACS Parents” is a fun 9-week communicative course, focusing on the tools parents need to learn French alongside their children. This course focuses on communication through dialogue, role-play, and correct pronunciation, offering interesting, effective and fun classes with practical applications for schoolwork. Weekly homework is to practice with family and classmates and do listening practice independently.

    Advanced Beginner to Early Intermediate:  Students will improve their language skills through speaking, grammar exercises, news podcasts, reading selections and short films.  Listening and proper pronunciation are stressed using dictation, videos and situational vocabulary.  (A2/B1 Level) This is an ongoing class.     "Everyday Situational French" In this conversational class, students gain confidence by developing their vocabulary, practicing "échanges" in grammar and in conversation, while learning about the culture. (B1 Level)

    This class is intended for those students who already have a good grasp of the basics and are seeking to improve their listening comprehension and conversational fluency. The short films will either be subtitled or transcribed in French and cover a range of mostly contemporary subjects. In addition to watching at home, class preparation will include comprehension and interpretive questions. (B1+ Level)
