  • French for Beginners A1.3 (Part III) with Valerie | 24F1 | In-Person | Wednesday 4:00 – 5:30pm

    French for Beginners A1.3 (Part III) In-Person class! This is an ongoing class for beginners in the 3rd part of a 4 part course which teaches students to communicate immediately in Everyday Situations by learning the building blocks of the language.  Students practice dialogues to introduce themselves, ask questions, make purchases, and enjoy the culture and challenges of everyday life. Use of practical expressions, correct pronunciation, grammar, and cultural know-how are stressed. This class will help students learn to enjoy and interact in the French culture, whether it be for travel, work, or personal pursuits.     Through an encounter with the rich and diverse history of French art, students will improve their ability to describe and discuss artworks and communicate their visual impressions, as they  journey through the history of French art. From the gargoyles and the delicate tracery of Gothic sculpture and architecture through the flowering of humanism during the Renaissance; the pomp and emotion of baroque art during the grand siècle under Louis XIV to the enchantments of French rococo; the dizzying proliferation of styles  –– realism, romanticism, symbolism, impressionism, and others –– that marked the tumultuous 19th century and the rise of the bourgeoisie as the principal consumers of art, and finally culminating in the experimental avant-garde of the 20th century and the development of abstraction.
