Beginner Group Classes

Beginning French teaches the fundamentals of listening, speaking, reading, and writing French. Common themes covered are greetings, exchanging simple information, restaurant, travel, family, weather, activities and shopping. Students learn correct pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary through student interactions while exploring French and francophone cultures.

As students progress through the beginning levels, new thematic units and vocabulary are introduced such as clothing, careers, daily routines and activities, foods, transportation, and directions. Through paired and group activities, simple conversations, dictations, and grammatical patterns students learn to comprehend, ask and answer questions, and follow instructions in French. Students explore writing and reading while expanding their vocabulary and command of the language.

Beginning French teaches students to communicate immediately in Everyday Situations by learning the building blocks of the language.  Students practice dialogues to introduce themselves, ask questions, make purchases, and enjoy the culture and challenges of everyday life. Use of current practical expressions, correct pronunciation and grammar, and cultural know-how are stressed.     French for Beginners A1.3 (Part III) In-Person class! This is an ongoing class for beginners in the 3rd part of a 4 part course which teaches students to communicate immediately in Everyday Situations by learning the building blocks of the language.  Students practice dialogues to introduce themselves, ask questions, make purchases, and enjoy the culture and challenges of everyday life. Use of practical expressions, correct pronunciation, grammar, and cultural know-how are stressed. This class will help students learn to enjoy and interact in the French culture, whether it be for travel, work, or personal pursuits.     French for Beginners A1.4 (Part IV): In-Person class! This is an ongoing class for beginners in the  final part of our beginner series which teaches students to communicate immediately in Everyday Situations by learning the building blocks of the language.  Students practice dialogues to introduce themselves, ask questions, make purchases, and enjoy the culture and challenges of everyday life. Use of current practical expressions, correct pronunciation, grammar, and cultural know-how are stressed, focusing on a communicative approach to the language. This class will help students learn to enjoy and interact in the French culture, whether it be for travel, work, or personal pursuits.     *AFSR Membership: $50 Individual/$75 Family In-person class! “Beginning French for SRFACS Parents” is a fun 10-week communicative course, focusing on the tools parents need to learn French alongside their children. This course focuses on communication through dialogue, role-play, and correct pronunciation, offering interesting, effective and fun classes with practical applications for schoolwork. Weekly homework is to practice with family and classmates and do listening practice independently.

    French for Advanced-Beginners A2: Online class! At the A2 level, students continue to strengthen their skills in French through proper pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar, focusing on a communicative approach to the language. Dialogues and listening activities are stressed and students read short stories to expand their vocabulary, grammar and comprehension.This class will help students learn to enjoy and interact in the French culture, whether it be for travel, work, or personal pursuits.     Advanced Beginner to Early Intermediate: This class is full! Students will improve their language skills through speaking, grammar exercises, news podcasts, reading selections and short films.  Listening and proper pronunciation are stressed using dictation, videos and situational vocabulary.  (A2/B1 Level) This is an ongoing class.
