Our film for September is Rodin, directed by Jacques Doillon. Vincent Lindon plays the sculptor. Roger Ebert.com praised the energy that Lindon brings to the film and noted that “Doillon’s script initially focuses on Rodin’s time crafting a piece on Dante’s Comedy, but it expands to his cameos from other famous artists: Monet, Cezanne, and Victor Hugo are just a few fellow creatives who are thrown into the mix.”
Screen the film at home on Kanopy, Amazon Video, or other popular streaming services, and then join Joelle Pluchon and Peter Zingg at 12 noon on Thursday, September 12, for a bilingual discussion on Zoom.

Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), man of the people, autodidact and revolutionary sculptor – the most brilliant of his era. At 42, Rodin meets Camille Claudel, a young woman desperate to become his assistant. He quickly acknowledges her as his most able pupil, and treats her as an equal in matters of creation.
