Each month French Cinémathèque, the Federation of AF USA’s monthly online film discussion group, in collaboration with Telescope Film, chooses a Francophone film that is available for streaming. AF members can watch the film independently, and come together for a free conversation in English with other fans of Francophone cinema, hosted by Aude Hesbert of the Villa Albertine Los Angeles.

Film Details

The film for May is Un prophète, directed by Jacques Audiard. Un prophète (2009) is the story of a Malik El Djebena, a man sentenced to six years in a French prison, who is alone in the world and can neither read nor write. To get by, he aligns himself with a powerful Corsican mob boss, steadily working his way up through the ranks, until his success brings him into conflict with his mentor.

The French Cinémathèque discussion will take place on Monday, May 20 at 4:00 pm.
