Crêpes & Carnaval

Event Details

Join us at the Alliance on Sunday, February 23rd from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM for a Chandeleur & Mardi Gras double celebration! Gloria from “Crêpes du Jour” will have her delicious sweet and savory crêpes for purchase, out of her cute little blue trailer. We will also have kids’ activities upstairs to celebrate Mardi Gras, so bring the entire family!

This is a free event, open to all.

What is La Chandeleur? The origins of La Chandeleur date back centuries ago as a way of symbolizing the end of the winter period. It signals that Spring is not too far away and that days are getting longer. It’s thought that the round shape and golden color of the crêpe represent the sun.

And what about Mardi Gras? In France, Mardi Gras traditions primarily involve a period of festive celebrations, including parades, costumes, and indulging in rich food like crêpes and beignets, all leading up to the day before Ash Wednesday (when Lent begins), where people traditionally “fatten up” before a period of fasting; the name “Mardi Gras” literally translates to “Fat Tuesday” in French.
