On Wednesday July 15, at 3:00 pm in the AFSR Grande Salle, at 1011 2nd Street Suite 206 in Santa Rosa, the AFSR Ciné-club presents an afternoon screening of François Truffaut’s last film, Confidentially Yours (Vivement Dimanche!), from 1983. It’s a comic thriller that pays homage to Alfred Hitchcock, and stars Fanny Ardant and Jean-Louis Trintignant. The film will be shown with English subtitles.
Jay Carr, writing for Turner Classic Movies, said about the film:
There’s a playfulness and finesse in Ardant’s high-energy loveliness that seems eminently suited to Truffaut’s essentially sunny temperament and the kinds of empathy that often make his films so beguiling. One of the things we lost when we lost Truffaut is the string of films they would have gone on to make. As swan songs go, this valentine disguised as a noir will do quite nicely.
Immediately following the film, Peter Zingg will moderate a bilingual discussion of the film.

À Hyères, dans le Var, Julien Vercel, possède et exploite une agence immobilière. Il est soupçonné, lors d’une partie de chasse, d’avoir assassiné M. Massoulier qui était l’un des amants de Marie-Christine, sa femme. Les faits sont contre lui, d’autant que peu de temps après, Marie-Christine est, elle aussi, assassinée au domicile conjugal. Le commissaire Santelli est chargé d’instruire. Caché dans son agence, Julien Vercel demande à Barbara Becker, sa secrétaire à la personnalité marquée, de mener l’enquête.
